Kitchen Tools #1: Digital Scale

If you like to bake, a digital scale is about the most important tool you can have in your kitchen.  They cost about $50.00 but are worth every penny.  My son bought me mine as a gift about 6 years ago.  If I was going to replace it, I would buy the OXO shown above.

A good digital scale will weight up to 11 pounds, allow you to set it for ounces or grams (more accurate than ounces), and have a tare feature.  The tare button zeros out the scale.  Thus you can put a bowl on the scale, hit the tare function and the scale will read “zero.”  Then you can weigh out any ingredent without worring about the substracting the weight of the bowl.

Bottom line: a digital scale will make you a better cook.
